Mastermind Group Tips
I have set up a lot of Mastermind Groups, and have seen over many years what works and doesn’t work most of the time. Since many of you have been asking questions lately, here are some tips that may be helpful to you if you are already in a Mastermind Group, or thinking of joining or putting a Mastermind Group together:
Remember that there is no absolute wrong or right when it comes to Mastermind Groups, but if you are not a Mastermind expert, consider following these 10 guidelines to get started:
1. Group size: 5-8 people
2. Meet twice a month. Consider meeting on the telephone most of the time and maybe once a quarter in person.
3. All members must commit to attendance.
4. Have rules and/or vote to “fire” uncommitted or non-attending members
5. Have a common purpose of the group that everyone is clear on (what exactly are you there for?)
6. Everyone must contribute. You never know where the next great idea is going to come from. No firehosing.
7. Create and stick to an agenda, and follow your time strictly.
8. Someone must facilitate the meeting. That role can be appointed, and can be rotated every 90 days or so.
9. No “cross-talking”. Only one person speaks at a time. The timer is the only one who gets to interrupt.
10. Meeting length 60-90 minutes if you are meeting twice a month and have 5-8 members.
There is a free Webex session on creating a MasterMind Group on Feb 19th for readers of this blog. It is from 8AM-9AM Pacific Time. If you would like to attend the session, simply send me an email: Julia@MentalIron.com and let me know you would like to attend, and I will send you the entry instructions. It is first come, first serve, and attendance is limited to 15 people. It is a really fun and very informative session. If you are considering joining or starting a MasterMind Group, you will not want to miss it!
Happy MasterMind-ing!
