TIME TO SIMPLIFY YOUR BUSINESS PLAN
Your business plan should be completed by the end of September and now that we are back from our summer vacations and we have the kids back in school, we can focus. Does it seem like things are just spinning out of control? Many of you have told me that, and believe me, I am human, too. I have felt that lately. The too-much-on-the-plate syndrome. I have been here before and you probably have, too.
Let’s take a simple look at the whole picture when it comes to each part of your plan for this quarter, and for 2009:
- Remember the four D’s: Dump -Delegate-Defer-Do.
- Is the activity inn line with your vision, values, and mission?
- Are you getting “shoulded” into something that’s not your strongpoint?
- What is it you do best? Does each objective fit your strengths?
- Does what you are doing have an audience, or are you just doing it over again?
I know these are the short versions of questions that have a lot of meat and discussion around them. Hopefully it will begin the thought processes, so you can start getting your plan drafted out. Remember your budget and your cash flow projections. Number one reason for failure: Undercapitalization.
And lastly, remember, work is love in action. You have to truly love your consumer and your product or service, and the privilege of serving the world through your action. If not, it’s time to reconsider and do something else. Life is short and there is no reason you shouldn’t be doing what fills your bucket.
Okay, start writing your business plan, whether it’s just for your department, or for the whole company. If it’s not in place by September 30th, you are behind the timeline. Contact me if you get stuck.
